Blood-pressure follow-up

Blood-pressure measurement and follow-up for managing hypertension.

What it involves

Regular blood-pressure readings and follow-up to reduce the risks tied to hypertension.

High blood pressure often causes no symptoms, yet it raises the risk of heart problems and stroke. Measuring it regularly, in the right conditions, tells you whether treatment is working. Readings taken at home, when you are calm, often reflect reality better than those taken in a stressful setting.

Your nurse takes your blood pressure using the recommended technique, after a few minutes of rest, and compares the values with your earlier readings. She goes over how you take your medication and your lifestyle habits, and shows you how to measure your own blood pressure properly if you have a monitor. Concerning values are flagged so that you can see your doctor.
