Biological sampling

Collection of samples (throat, secretions and more) done at home and sent to the lab.

Some tests need a different kind of sample than blood or urine: a swab from the throat, nose or a wound, or a sample of secretions, for example to identify an infection. These samples are ordered by a doctor and must be taken with precise technique for the result to be reliable.

Your nurse confirms your prescription, explains what will happen, then takes the sample with the appropriate sterile supplies. It is quick, sometimes slightly uncomfortable but brief. The sample is labelled, kept in the required conditions and taken to the laboratory. Results are sent through the channel set out by your prescription.
